UK fisheries more complicated than rocket science, says Eustice

On Wednesday, Conservative MP and former DEFRA secretary George Eustice spoke in a Westminster Hall debate entitled: “Methodologies for setting Total Allowable Catches for Data Limited Stocks in fisheries negotiations”.

Mr Eustice said: “I recall once one of the fishing representatives giving evidence to a select committee and as he put it: ‘Fisheries, it’s not rocket science – it’s way more complicated than that’. And because there are uncertainties in the science and the way that we calculate maximum sustainable yield difficulties, for instance, around assessing the age of a fish”.
