‘Bizarre’ case of veteran having ID card rejected at local elections raised by MP

A Labour MP raised the case of a former army officer having his veteran ID rejected at the local elections in the House of Commons on Thursday afternoon.

Voting is under way in England and Wales for the 2024 local elections and in-person voters must show one of the 22 accepted forms of identification, however that does not include the new veteran ID card.

In a point of order, Stephen Doughty labelled the situation “bizarre” and asked the deputy speaker if he had received notice from the government indicating a minister would make a commons statement on the matter.
