Keir Starmer pays tribute to Sir Tony Lloyd, veteran Labour MP, who has died aged 73

Speaking in a point of order in the House of Commons this evening, Labour leader Keir Starmer paid tribute to Sir Tony Lloyd who it has been announced died today age 73.

Starmer said: “I’m grateful for this point of order, just to say a few words about Tony and this terrible loss this afternoon. We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Tony.

“I spoke to him last Thursday when he left hospital for the last time to spend as much time as he could with his family and was able to pass on to him our thoughts, our respects, our affection for him, his commitment, his public service, and, frankly, his sheer decency”.

The Speaker of the House Sir Lindsay Hoyle confirmed a minute’s silence will be held in Sir Tony’s memory in the House tomorrow.
