PMQs: Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer clash ahead of the local elections

Prime minister Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Keir Starmer clashed at PMQs for the final time before the local elections on Wednesday afternoon.

The Labour leader focused on the government’s long-term ambition to scrap National Insurance contributions, repeatedly asking the PM if he would raise the retirement age in order to fund it.

He closed with the election message: “Vote Tory, risk your pension”.

Sunak countered by stressing his party’s commitment to the triple lock, before closing: “Tomorrow voters will have a choice. And it will be a choice between mayors like Andy Street and Ben Houchen, who are delivering or mayors like like Sadiq Khan, who who just simply virtue signal”.
