James Murray is‌ ‌the Labour‌ and Co-operative MP‌ ‌for‌ Ealing North,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2019 ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 12,269.
The Ealing North constituency‌ ‌is‌ ‌found‌ to the west of London at the end of the Central line, and‌ ‌covers‌ the areas of Greenford, Northolt and Perivale. Previously a marginal constituency that changed hands when a new government was elected, this has now become a safe Labour seat. Ethnically diverse, census figures show a sixth of its electorate are black voters and a quarter are of Asian descent.
After becoming an MP, Murray was soon appointed to the Labour front bench as Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury.
Born‌ ‌1983, in in Ealing, where his mother was a Labour councillor, James Murray studied PPE at Oxford University, and previously worked for the Labour frontbencher, Emily Thornberry. Murray was then appointed Deputy Mayor for Housing in London, by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.
For 10 years he served as a councillor in Islington.  Although formerly a supporter of Jeremy Corbyn, he is considered to be on the soft left of the Labour Party. He is an openly gay MP.
He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Armenia, Council Housing, London’s Built Environment, and Youth Affairs.
