UK cannot maintain ‘passivity’ in Afghanistan, says Jarvis following ban on women aid workers

Labour MP Dan Jarvis has reacted to the ban on women aid workers in Afghanistan.

In an urgent question on the topic, Mr Jarvis said: “Our recent history with Afghanistan, sadly, is underlined by passivity. So there is now a clear choice to make change course now or condemn ourselves and the Afghan people by repeating history again. Let us not make that mistake”.

International development minister Andrew Mitchell responded: “On the 13th of January, during the UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan, the UK reiterated that women and girls in Afghanistan must remain high on the Security Council agenda”.
