‘The Conservatives are failing this country’, says Reynolds after Britishvolt collapse

Shadow business and industrial strategy secretary Jonathan Reynolds was granted an urgent question on Wednesday on the collapse of Britishvolt and its affect on the UK’s gigafactory capacity.

Mr Reynolds said: “Wherever you look, Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives are failing this country, whether it’s public services or in our iconic British industries. And unless this government wakes up to the scale of the transition that is required, we will not only risk many of the good jobs so many of our communities rely upon, we will miss out on one of the greatest economic opportunities this country has ever had”.

Energy and climate minister Graham Stuart responded: “The idea that comes from the party opposite is that Labour, if in power, would build these factories. That’s not how the economy works”.
