Shapps denies summer ball outing on eve of rail strikes

During transport questions, secretary of state Grant Shapps denied shadow minister Louise Haigh’s claim that he “wined and dined Tory donors” on the eve of last week’s rail strikes.

Haigh had asked why he had attended the event and not stopped the industrial action, calling him a “part time transport secretary”.

Grant rejected the accusation, telling MPs that he is “full time on the job”.
