Pride: Angela Eagle celebrates the rejection of the status quo

In a stand out speech during the backbench debate on the 50th anniversary of UK Pride, Labour’s Dame Angela Eagle paid tribute to all who “didn’t accept the status quo”.

While she celebrated the “tremendous achievement”, Eagle warned MPs of “reactionary forces lurking in the UK” as well as around the world.

Eagle pointed to “homophobic rants” by Putin and the Supreme Court decision in the US on abortion as examples of “fundamentalists” attempting to reverse “all of the progress that we have been celebrating”.
