NI Protocol is a ‘powerful restriction on UK sovereignty’, committee told

Northern Ireland business leaders and legal experts were invited to give evidence to the European Scrutiny committee today amid am impasse in EU-UK negotiations over the NI Protocol.

Thomas Sharpe KC told the committee: “We’ve got a protocol, which is a document in international law. We can walk away from it with some risks or we can attempt to amend it. I think the message I’m getting from my colleagues, is you can amend it incrementally, but as it stands, it’s a very powerful restriction on UK sovereignty for a significant part of the United Kingdom”.
