MPs react as British Steel draws up plans for 800 job losses in Lincolnshire plant

Conservative MP Holly Mumby-Croft was granted an urgent question today, following news that British Steel is considering 800 job cuts centred on its Scunthorpe plant.

Ms Mumby-Croft said: “I want to be clear, I cannot and I will not defend this decision, which is unacceptable in every possible way for my constituents. … I hold the company entirely responsible for the way that they decided to act yesterday”.

SNP spokesperson Dave Doogan called on the government to nationalise steel. He said: “I’ll say it even if the Labour Party won’t. Why does the Government not consider nationalising steel in the United Kingdom?”.
