Minister says farming strategy will shake off ‘damaging legacy’ of the EU Common Agricultural Policy

In a statement to the House of Commons today, the minister for food, farming and fisheries Mark Spencer gave an update on the UK’s agricultural strategy.

He said: “[the strategy will] help farmers build and maintain profitable, resilient businesses by spending public money in a way that helps us to secure the public good so that they so they can continue to produce the food we need and help improve the state of nature”.

The shadow minister Daniel Zeichner responded: “We will soon be halfway through the so-called transition. The government has been good at cutting the funding to hard-pressed farmers but frankly woeful at guaranteeing our food production here in the UK”.
