Minister probed on Javid’s suggestion that patients should pay for their GP

In health and social care department questions on Tuesday, Labour MP Debbie Abrahams questioned the government on Sajid Javid’s suggestion that patients should pay for their GP.

Ms Abrahams said: “The richest 1%, bagged nearly twice as much wealth as the remaining 99% in the last two years. So given this, does the Minister think that it’s appropriate to recommend for people to pay for their GP?”.

Maria Caulfield replied: “This government isn’t recommending that people pay for their GP. In fact, we’re investing more in primary care than ever before, unlike the Labour Government who the Labour shadow minister who wants to dismantle the GP system and privatised privatised the healthcare system as well”.
