Lucy Powell: ‘Why doesn’t Penny Mordaunt “stand up and fight” for parliament?’

In her response to the business statement today, shadow leader of the House Lucy Powell mocked Penny Mordaunt’s address to Conservative Party conference by calling on the leader to “stand up and fight” for parliament.

Powell said: “Why doesn’t [Mordaunt] stand up and fight for Parliament? Stand up and fight for members to hear government policies first or for colleagues not to be hoodwinked when big decisions are taken?”.

It comes after the leader of the House called on the Conservative Party conference floor to “stand up and fight” twelve times in her speech earlier this month.

She said: “stand up and fight for the freedoms we have won against socialism, whether it is made of velvet or iron.”
