Labour presses for government action on finances within football in light of Wigan Athletic winding up order

During Culture, Media and Sport Department questions today Labour spokesperson Lucy Powell asked the minister why she has “not personally done more” over financing in football.

Ms Powell said: “Why has the Secretary of State not personally done more to bring about a fair financial settlement with the EFL and the FA, which addresses the problems set out in her own white paper and pressed for Premier League to do more?”.

Secretary of state Lucy Frazer responded by referencing the publication of the government’s white paper, adding: “I do hope that football resolves this issue itself”.
