Keir Starmer dares Rishi Sunak to call May election after ‘delusional’ Spring Budget

Speaking in response to the chancellor’s Spring Budget today, Labour leader Keir Starmer dared the prime minister to call an election for 2 May.

He urged Rishi Sunak to “stop the dithering” and end the “uncertainty” by confirming he would go to the country in May.

“This country deserves better and Labour are ready”, Starmer said.

It came after he blasted Jeremy Hunt’s Spring Budget as “delusional”, telling the House of Commons: “There we have it. The last desperate act of a party that has failed Britain. In recession; the National Credit card maxed out; and despite the measures today, the highest tax burden for 70 years; the first parliament since records began to see living standards fall confirmed by this budget today.

“That is their record. It is still their record. Give with one hand and take even more with the other.”
