Wednesday, 12 December 2007 12:00 AM
Samurai swords will be banned from the UK as of April next year, the Home Office announced today.
Following a 12-week consultation, the government has confirmed a ban on the import, sale and hire of Samurai swords.
Ministers and police claim the Japanese swords count as a dangerous weapon and have been linked to a "significant" number of incidents in recent years.
