Speaker puts a stop to Gove rant defending Patel

During levelling up questions, Secretary of state for levelling up and housing Michael Gove accused Labour MP Diane Abbott of trying to score “political points” when she criticised the home secretary for giving just 50 visas to Ukrainian refugees.

Abbott called it a “wrong and a shame upon this country”. However, Gove disagreed, telling the House that the home secretary was “energetic, determined and on the job”.

Gove appeared to become more emotional as his response went on until the Speaker stepped in telling him that he was not going to rant on his watch.
