Sheerman offers to become an interim education minister

On the day that prime minister Boris Johnson has announced his resignation, Labour’s Barry Sheerman described the UK to be in the “greatest crisis any of us can remember”.

Sheerman noted that there was no education minister and given his experience in the area, offered to become an interim minister.

Paymaster general Michael Ellis turned down the offer, referencing “the plethora of talented and dedicated individuals” in the Conservative Party.
