Procedure committee statement on proxy voting and babies in parliament

Chair of the procedure committee Karen Bradley gave a statement on the committee’s report into proxy voting and babies in the Houses of Parliament.

Bradley told members that the report concluded that the majority of members were in favour of extending proxy votes “to include members suffering from serious long term illness or injury”.

The chair also reaffirmed the guidance that the “chamber, Westminster Hall and standing committees are not environments for very young children”, but that the chairs should “sparingly” use discretion if appropriate.
