New bill would require local authorities to maintain register of children not in school

The Conservative MP Flick Drummond today proposed a 10 minute rule bill which, if passed, would place a legal duty on local authorities to maintain a register of children who are not in school.

Introducing her bill, Ms Drummond said: “My bill today is seeking to address is the number of children who have disappeared from the school school roll altogether. Currently, we hold no comprehensive data about how many children are not on the school roll, where they are, and what quality of education they are receiving, if any”.
