Mordaunt urges Lee Anderson to consider ‘the good he could do’ for ‘whatever’ party

Speaking after delivering the weekly business statement this morning, leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt called on Lee Anderson to consider “the good he could do” after he had the Conservative whip withdrawn over inflammatory comments relating to London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Mordaunt said: “I would … ask him, whatever political hue he ends up being, to consider all the good that he could do in these particular times with the trust and following that he has built up”.

The comments came after shadow leader of the House Lucy Powell said: “I hope she will take this opportunity to say what is very clear for all to see that the comments of the member for Ashfield about the Mayor of London were racist and Islamophobic”.
