Chris Bryant: Tweet retweeted by Andrew Bridgen is ‘actionable’ and an ‘incitement towards violence’

In a point of order in the House of Commons today, Labour MP Sir Chris Bryant and Conservative MP Caroline nokes raised concerns over in a tweet retweeted by Reclaim party MP Andrew Brigden.

The comments came in the wake of a bill introduced this morning by Mr Brigden nominally aimed at banning the promotion in schools of gender transition. The bill was voted down at first reading.

The part of the Tweet in question, written by Reclaim leader Laurence Fox, reads: “What wasn’t expected was that these so called Conservative (in name only) MP’s also voted against the motion and in support of the grooming and mutilation of children, and it was them who assured that ultimately the bill failed to pass. Please feel free to let them know how you feel”.

The tweet then lists the Conservative MPs who voted against the bill, including Ms Nokes.

Sir Chris said in the commons: “The tweet that is referred to says that several Conservative members voted against the motion and in support of the grooming and mutilation of children. Now, I think that that is incitement. It is incitement, I would suggest, towards violence against Conservative members and members of this side who voted against the motion today. And I think it’s probably also actionable”.
