Mass protests to hit Labour conference

Mass protests are being planned for the Labour party conference in Brighton next month, with trade unionists, student groups and anti-war activists joining forces in Brighton.
 
A Group called Right to Work are organising transport from London to Brighton, to join pre-existing protests outside the conference centre.
 
The group’s website reads: “Instead of saving jobs, the government is pressing ahead with policies that threaten jobs from Royal Mail to local government to the civil service to the NHS.
 
“Individual unions and the TUC should be leading the fight against job losses by opposing redundancies, resisting closures and demanding a transformation of government policy.”
 
Meanwhile, the Campaign Against Climate Change will join forces with pensioners groups, anti-war protesters and faith groups to lobby against government policy. The University and Colleges Union (USU) will protest against the allocation of public funds.
 
“We are expecting a good turnout,” a spokesman said.
 
“We are expecting to get all the unions, the NUT, UCU and NUJ along. It’s a broad collaboration saying it is really important for the government to change their decisions and improve the economy.”

The Labour conference takes place between September 27th and October 1st.
