New immigration director appointed

The Government has unveiled Lin Homer as the new director general of the Immigration and Nationality Directorate.

Ms Homer, currently chief executive of Birmingham City Council, will be ultimately responsible for managed migration, border control and asylum in her new role.

“Making immigration and border controls work effectively is important to the whole country and to the people who use those services,” said Ms Homer, who will be tasked with implementing the next stage of the Government’s five-year asylum and immigration strategy.

“I am looking forward to building on the significant improvements that have already been made and ensuring that we take the service forward efficiently and confidently,” she added.

Home Office Permanent Secretary John Gieve, who announced the appointment, added: “She will have a critical role in helping to improve public confidence in our immigration system.”
