Tebbit to delay recall before Hutton

Sir Kevin Tebbit, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, is not expected to give evidence next week at the Hutton Inquiry.

Sir Kevin has been recovering from a recent eye operation and has therefore been excused from his recall before Lord Hutton’s judicial inquiry into the suicide of Dr David Kelly, the Iraqi weapons expert at the centre of the “dodgy dossier” scandal.

Mike Burrell, a spokesman for the Hutton inquiry, said: “I have had confirmation from Sir Kevin Tebbit’s legal team that he’s not sufficiently well enough to appear before the Hutton inquiry again.

“We will announce a future date as soon as possible.”

Sir Kevin is expected to be grilled on the MoD’s “outing” of Dr Kelly to the media.

Lord Hutton heard final submissions from five lawyers on Thursday and now goes away to write up his report.
