Surrey police have released their report into the deaths of four young soldiers at Deepcut barracks in Surrey.

The four, all new recruits, died of gunshot wounds between 1995 and 2002.

The deaths of the four soldiers were originally classified by the army as suicides, but the families refused to believe the verdict and pressed for an inquiry.

However after an investigation lasting over a year, Surrey police concluded that there is no evidence that anybody else was involved in the deaths.

The final decision on whether there should be any further inquest into the deaths rests with the local coroner.

Responding to the announcement, the families of the soldiers have called for a ‘Hutton style inquiry’ into the circumstances both of the deaths and of the investigation that followed. They also wish to establish what- if they are wrong and the suicide claims are correct- drove what they saw as happy children to kill themselves.
