Welsh government cuts Covid isolation time to seven days

The Welsh government has confirmed it is cutting the Covid-19 self-isolation period from 10 to seven days.

In a review of health protection measures in the country, the Welsh government confirmed they were bringing forward plans to change the self-isolation period due to the sheer numbers of people testing positive for Covid-19. More than 21,000 new cases have been recorded in Wales in the past 24 hours.

The Welsh government said in a statement:

“We are bringing the change forward because the balance of harms has changed and the rising number of cases has begun to have an impact on the number of people, in critical jobs, who are excluded from the workplace because of self-isolation.

“We will introduce this change tomorrow (31 December).”
