Kremlin confirms Putin will not attend COP26

Russian president Vladimir Putin has officially confirmed that he will not be attending the upcoming United Nations Cop26 summit set to kick off in Glasgow on 31 October.

“Unfortunately, Putin will not fly to Glasgow,” a Kremlin spokesperson told AFP reporters earlier on Wednesday. They added that climate change was “one of our foreign policy’s most important priorities”.

It is also expected that Chinese president Xi Jinping will snub the summit, during which Prime Minister Boris Johnson reportedly hopes to strike a global deal to curb temperature rises.
