Parliament debates new law ‘targeting’ Gypsies

MPs yesterday debated a section of the police, crime, sentencing and courts bill which targets Gypsies and Travellers.

The bill will, among other proposals, allow police to confiscate all possessions if there is a suspected risk of these groups engaging in “offensive conduct” on private land.

Parliament was split on the issue, with Labour warning that this will strip away the legal rights of many people, whilst Conservatives said these changes were overdue.
