Neale Hanvey was elected as the‌ MP‌ ‌for‌ Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath in 2019, gaining the seat from the Labour Party ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 1,132.
He was one of two SNP MPs, who defected from the party to Alex Salmond’s new Alba Party in 2021. He now sits for Alba at Westminster.
The seat of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath is found on the northern side of the Firth of Forth, and for many years was represented in Parliament by the former Labour Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.

‌Born‌ ‌in 1964‌ in Belfast, Hanvey moved to Scotland when he was aged seven, and was‌ ‌educated‌ ‌at‌ Glenrothes High School and the University of London.
A former nurse, he was later appointed as a divisional nurse director for rare cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
Neale Hanvey previously served as an SNP Councillor on Fife council for five years between 2012 and 2017, before being elected to parliament.
At Westminster, Hanvey is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Pensions, and Unconscious Bias.
Neale Hanvey lives in Fife with husband and his two children in Fife.
