Trevelyan secures UK steel industry with safeguard announcement

In a statement to the House of Commons, international trade secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan announced the government’s decision to maintain five safeguards for the UK steel industry.

Trevelyan told the House that if this measure was not put in place, there would be “the threat of serious injury to the steel sector”.

Labour’s Nick Thomas-Simones welcomed the move, telling MPs that “we must support our steel sector” as it is “foundational in our economy”.
