Speaker Hoyle accuses policing minister Chris Philp of ‘ad-libbing’ during statement

During the ministerial statement today on the planned banning of “zombie knives”, home office minister Chris Philp was accused of going off script by Speaker Lindsay Hoyle.

Sir Lindsay said: “Can I just say to the minister, the copy I have didn’t relate to what he was saying to the House. Some part seems to be missing. .. I don’t know if you’ve been ad-libbing”.

Mr Philp replied: “There were one or two points I added in reference to members here, but in substance, no, but I am happy to try and work out what happened afterwards”.
