Smart device privacy rules ‘lengthy, obscure and inaccessible’

 

The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee has quizzed witnesses over whether connected tech is “smart or sinister”.

Silkie Carlo, director Big Brother Watch, earned that “companies can’t tell people total confidence where the data goes because the privacy policies are lengthy, obscure, inaccessible.”

She said that owning devices such as smart speakers and enhanced doorbells potentially “is a really risky thing” given that they can be “so intrusive”.
