Rayner asks government to make statement on the procurement of PPE contracts

Deputy leader of the Labour Party Angela Rayner asked the government to make statement on the procurement of PPE contracts on Thursday.

She said: “Profits made possible through the company’s personal connections to ministers in the Tories VIP lane that was declared illegal by the High Court. Yet ministers are still refusing to publish correspondence relating to the award of the MedPro contract.”

Health minister Neil O’Brien responded. He said: “Sourcing, producing and distributing PPE is even in normal times, a uniquely complex challenge. However, the efforts to do this during a pandemic, at a time when global demand was never higher, were truly extraordinary”.
