PMQs: Speaker Lindsay Hoyle reprimands MPs whose language has ‘fallen short’

In a statement to the House of Commons ahead of prime minister’s questions today, speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle reprimanded those MPs whose language has “fallen short” in recent sessions.

He said: “Some of the language used in questions has … fallen short of the standards and good temperate moderation that should characterise the proceedings of this House”.

He added: “I would urge honourable members on both sides of the House to exercise greater self-restraint in their choice of words and in their general behaviour, both when they are asking a question and when they are not”.
