MPs call on the government to proscribe Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps

In a debate on the political situation in Iran put forward by Conservative MP Bob Blackman, MPs have called on the government to proscribe Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). It is currently UK policy to “maintain a range of sanctions that work to constrain the destabilising activity of the IRGC”.

Describing the treatment of protestors in Iran in the debate, chair of the foreign affairs select committee Alicia Kearns said: “It is misogynism entrenched within an institution, within a government. It is the taking of joy in violence against women because we are less and this is something we see across the world and something that we have to raise our voices against. And we in Britain can be a leading voice on this”.
