Starmer mocked as Thatcher ‘fan boy’ after praising former PM for enacting ‘meaningful change’

At prime minister’s questions today, Labour leader Keir Starmer was mocked as a new Margaret Thatcher “fan boy” by Conservative MP Sir Michael Fabricant.

Sir Michael asked Rishi Sunak: “So does the prime minister share my boundless joy that on the road to Damascus and in recognition of her great heritage and all that she achieved, another fan boy has joined her great belief, the leader of the opposition”.

The prime minister responded: “But he is absolutely right. I am always happy to welcome new Thatcherite from all sides of this house.”

He added: ‘It does say something about the Leader of the Opposition that the main female strong leader that he could praise is Margaret Thatcher and not his own fantastic deputy”.

In an article for the Telegraph newspaper over the weekend, Keir Starmer hailed Thatcher as one of the few modern leaders to enact “meaningful change in modern British politics”.
