‘If you’re going to make personal attacks, write them in a newspaper’ says Met Police Commissioner to Lee Anderson’s committee grilling

During a hearing of the Home Affairs Committee, Met Police Commissioner Mark Rowley faced questions from Lee Anderson, Conservative MP for Ashfield.

Anderson asked Rowley how he had dealt with specific incidents of racism, misogyny and sexism during his time in the force. Rowley said he had never witnessed it first-hand, which Anderson said was ‘hard to believe’.

Anderson then said he felt he was ‘wasting his time’ asking the Commissioner these questions, as he didn’t feel he was getting answers. Rowley said that if MPs wanted to make ‘personal attacks’, they should ‘write it in the newspapers’ rather than do it in a committee.
