Government accused of ‘missing in action’ and ‘wastage’ in transport debate

The Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, and his Under-Secretary, Robert Courts, faced pressure from the opposition regarding their commitment to the transport industry.

Mike Kane, the Shadow Minister for Transport, called for the Secretary of State to “step up” to aid the struggling aviation industry.

Courts disagreed, telling the House that the government “wholeheartedly supports the variation sector”, having given the sector £8 million in support.

Labours, Sam Tarry accused the government of “rolling out rhetoric” rather than investing in London transport. Grant Shapps, dismissed this claim, referring to the £4.5 million spent to “prop up TFL”.
