‘Calamity Coffey’: McMahon slams environment secretary’s performance at NFU conference

At DEFRA questions today, shadow secretary of state Jim McMahon rubbished the environment secretary Therese Coffey’s performance at the National Farmers’ Union annual conference.

Mr McMahon said: “The environment secretary had a pretty bad day at the office. Some describe it as a slow motion tractor crash, calamity Coffey. But either way, joking aside, it was an insult to the very foundation of our food security and hard working British farmers”.

Minister Mark Spencer responded: “We had a successful meeting with farmers in Birmingham. There were some robust exchanges. That’s what we welcome”.
