Braverman and Cooper clash over the Government’s record on community policing

In an opposition day debate in the House of Commons, Labour has pushed the Government for an increase to the number of neighbourhood police officers, saying communities are facing 3,000 incidents of anti-social behaviour a day.

Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper said: “The Tories have shown that they are weak on crime, weak on justice, weak on law and order. That is why we need a Labour government now”.

Home secretary Suella Braverman replied: “We’ve heard from the shadow home secretary and her performance is really worthy of an Oscar, we’re in awards season, I think she’s strong on alarmism and strong on hysteria, a little weak on facts”.
