Equinor announce £9.4 billion in annual profits – Greenpeace reaction

Reacting to the news that Equinor have announced £9.4 billion ($11.9 billion) in profits, Charlie Kronick, Senior Climate Advisor at Greenpeace UK, said: “These profits make the UK government’s decision to award Equinor almost £3 billion in tax breaks to develop the Rosebank oil field appear even more outrageous. Rosebank will do nothing to lower energy bills or increase our energy security but will cause climate chaos around the world. This government has consistently sided with the world’s richest polluters, while those who have contributed least to climate change are left to pick up the tab.

“That £3 billion could have helped ensure that impacted communities are protected from the worst impacts of the climate crisis or alleviate the strain of sky-high energy bills in the UK. Instead of lining the pockets of oil and gas giants like Equinor, the government should force the fossil fuel industry to stop drilling new fossil fuels and start paying for the damage their industry is causing to people and planet.”
