The latest opinion poll suggest the Conservatives would be the largest party in a new parliament and but may fall just shy of an overall majority.

The daily Yougov poll in the Sun shows the Conservatives with a seven point lead, at 37%. That score is down three, while Labour’s 31% reveals a one point gain.

The Liberal Democrats hold on 20 per cent.

An ICM poll in the Sunday Telegraph saw the Conservatives gaining one point to reach 38% and Labour losing three to go to 30% with no change for the Lib Dems at 21%. A ComRes poll in the Independent on Sunday gave the Tories 39%, up two points, and seven points ahead of Labour, who also gain two to go to 32%.

The losers in the poll are the Lib Dems who dropped the four points.

The Conservatives need a lead of ten per cent to form a majority government.
