SNP tackles Straw on troops’ votes

The SNP has called on Foreign Secretary Jack Straw to apologise, when he visits Scotland later today, for depriving thousands of overseas troops of their vote.

The SNP claims that voter registration forms were sent out too late to allow overseas troops to register to vote in time for the general election.

Annabelle Ewing, said: “Scottish soldiers risked their lives so that Iraqis could vote”, she said.

“Jack Straw must apologise to all those soldiers who have been denied that same right at home.”
