Poll shows Labour lead cut

Labour remain ahead of the Conservatives despite a sharp cut in their lead, according to a new opinion poll.

A poll by CommunicateResearch for the Independent on Sunday reveals that Labour hold a six point lead over the Tories ahead of an anticipated May election.

But that lead has been cut from a 12 point advantage just a week ago.

The poll showed that 40 per cent of the 1010 people polled favoured the Labour Party, down three points from last week.

Indeed, that dip was reflected in a rise in support for the Conservatives, who moved three points on 34%.

The Liberal Democrats moved down one point, compared with last week, on 16%.

Nevertheless, The Independent stated that the fall in support could be explained by “random sampling variation” rather than a shift in opinions.

However,it was also shown that among people who say they are certain to vote, Labour and the Conservatives both command 39 per cent of the poll, with the Liberal Democrats on 12 per cent.
