Human rights hunting challenge goes to High Court

The High Court has granted the Countryside Alliance permission to table a challenge to the Hunting Act under the Human Rights Act 1998.

This is the latest legal challenge against the legislation after two previous challenges have failed.

Alliance chief executive Simon Hart, said: “In their rejection of evidence and principle, the Government and the House of Commons have pushed through a law which transgresses fundamental human rights. We intend to remedy this state of affairs in an arena where evidence is listened to rather than ignored for politically expedient reasons.”

No date has yet been set for the hearing.
