England urged to be “friendliest fans” at Euro 2004

In an unusual move a Scottish MSP has urged England’s fans to be the “friendliest fans in world football” at the forthcoming European Football Championships.

Conservative MSP, and keen Rangers supporter, Murdo Fraser has lodged a motion with the Scottish Parliament stating: “The Parliament wishes England every success in the European Championships 2004 in Portugal.

Continuing Mr Fraser “hopes that the England fans follow the example of Scotland’s Tartan Army in being the friendliest fans in world football and wishes Portugal a highly successful tournament.”

It is not yet known if any other MSPs are supporting Mr Fraser’s motion.

The England team kick off their campaign against France on Sunday.

Scotland, on the other hand, failed to qualify for the championships.

UK police have been keeping a sharp eye on ports and airports for English hooligans who might be attempting to travel to Portugal.

England has been warned that if its fans misbehave then it could be thrown out of the tournament.
