Purported al Qaeda tape vows more US attacks

Arabic TV station al Jazeera aired Friday an audio message purportedly from al Qaeda, declaring Osama bin Laden’s terrorist unit was chasing Americans everywhere, including their “homeland.”

A speaker, probably Ayman al-Zawahri, the second in command at al Qeada, said on the 10-minute tape: “America has been defeated (by) our fighters in Afghanistan despite all its military might, its weaponry.

“With Gods help we are still chasing Americans and their allies everywhere, including their homeland.”

Al Qaeda is blamed for the September 11, 2001 World Trade Centre atrocities.

The tape said Americans would reap what they sow.

Meanwhile, US officials said yesterday that the Navy had seized a boat carrying nearly two tons of hashish in the Persian Gulf.

Three men aboard the ship were believed to have al-Qaeda connections. The shipment was valued at $8-10 million, the Navy said.
