David Kelly seemed to be his normal self, the person who saw him last before his apparent suicide told the Hutton Inquiry this morning.

Neighbour Ruth Absalom chatted with the MoD weapons expert as he went for the walk that ended in his death.

Ms Absalom had been out walking her dog when she met Dr Kelly, at the top of Harris’ Lane in Longworth,

The Hutton Inquiry has also heard from the police officers and ambulance crew who searched for the missing scientist and found his body, in a wood near to his home in Oxfordshire.

Also due to give evidence today is Professor Keith Hawton, director of the Centre for Suicide Research at Oxford University’s department of psychiatry.

He is expected to comment on Dr Kelly’s likely state of mind at the time of his apparent suicide.
